To conquer your goals, it is important you must begin with your end in mind.
You Ask why?
Well, a friend asked a lady he was fond of and admired so much to date him, before she said yes, he kept going on about how that would be “the one” and “the it” relationship for him.
She said, yes!
They began dating, and a few months later, he was distraught the relationship wasn’t all that, this was a problem and primarily one he caused for himself.
You are wondering why and how?
Well, if he had defined what success would look like for him, if he had thought about possibilities of what success would be for their relationship, it would have helped him manage his expectations and actions.
Begin with your end in mind is the second habit captured in self-help book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. The seven habits listed in Dr Covey’s book include:
- Be Proactive
- Begin with the End in Mind
- Put First Things First
- Think Win-Win
- Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
- Sharpen the Saw
I believe that mapping your goals and aspirations by beginning with your end in mind will help you stay motivated, visualise your journey and keep you focused. It also allows us to better manage stress and failures because we begin every idea or journey with success in mind, but starting with the end in mind would help you see.
On the second episode of my Instagram Live Session #ConversationsWithPakuma, I discuss how and why you must begin with your end in mind to set yourself and your goals on a trajectory of accomplishing them.
I believe that beginning with your end in mind equips you with the right mindset or intent for setting the right goals and ensures that we are not like my friend Chike who when a relationship he wanted so much happened, he felt so empty about it.
