Becoming mentally tired or overwhelmed with life happens to the best of us. To some, experiencing it draws out emotions of loneliness, sadness, bewilderment and depression for many. If not unchecked it could become a recipe for constant demotivation in their endeavours like career, business and relationships.
I have experienced either side of both extremes. What I can tell you is that you do not want it to become your experience frequently. On my good days over the years, I have gotten better at managing becoming mentally tired or overwhelmed. I would love to share some of those tips with you below. Hopefully, they help you and become a guide for you to find what works for you.
There is a childhood Christian song “prayer is the key” that has stuck with me. You might not be a Christian reading this but, whatever your religious beliefs are, I can almost guarantee that it would be the same. There is something about prayer that helps us connect to our higher self and higher being. It builds hope and encouragement helps us become reassured that we are not alone. If you ever find yourself feeling this way, pray, God listens and would not judge you. His ears and hands are closer for comfort. Make prayer a lifestyle, and let it become your go-to always.
Pro-Tip: 1 John 5:14 says: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Meditation is a form of spoken discourse with yourself, connecting you to mindfulness and focus. There are different types of meditation which have several benefits for our mental and physical health. For beginners, it would always be advisable to start with guided meditation then grow in it.
Positive affirmations are self-affirming statements that help you overcome your self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. Some of these thoughts are unplanned, you catch yourself having them, normalise them and in a short while they become your manifested reality. Positive affirmations should be a daily and consistent practice. You can find a lot of great resources on YouTube.
Having some form of physical activity is a good habit for overcoming being mentally tired, drained or overwhelmed. It could be any form of cardio exercise, swimming, yoga, skipping etc. Just find what works for you and keep a regular schedule with doing it. Remember what you should be aspiring for is to build long term habits.
Spending Quality Time
Spending quality time with your loved one(s) can be exhilarating. Make sure to express your present mood but try not to be stuck in your thoughts while with them. Remind yourself of what it feels like being loved and loving them, especially if they are your significant other.
Conclusion on Being Mentally Tired
Seeing a mental health doctor should also be an option you should consider. I do not have to reiterate how tough and mentally challenging 2020 a year has been for us all.
In some way, all of our plans have been affected. I believe this can be an opportunity to build new mental habits and strengths that are more lasting. Breaks are ok but incorporating some of the tips suggested above would have lasting effects on your mental health.
